Please join us as we provide some useful information tailored to nonprofit leaders in Texas. There are many items unique to nonprofits, and we want to help provide useful information and resources during this extraordinary time.

This is meant to be an interactive Zoom meeting where we will devote half a portion of our time together for participants to ask one another questions, collaborate, and share ideas.

  • Ryan Johnson, CBC

    Sr. Vice President, Ardent Solutions

    As a Consultant with Ardent Solutions, Ryan specializes in working with mid-market employers to improve and fine-tune their employee benefit offerings. He is involved in all aspects of negotiations, plan architecture, contribution strategy, carrier selection, employee communication, and ongoing support. He listens to his clients and their goals before making recommendations to create a tailored solution for each client. Ryan enjoys problem-solving and providing new strategies to companies that can improve their plan for the company and its employees.

    His clients appreciate his high attention to detail and responsiveness to issues or questions that arise. Ryan’s creative and progressive ideas have helped many companies save a significant amount of money while maintaining a rich benefit offering.

    Ryan was selected to be on the Alera Benefit Advisory Board, the United HealthCare Advisory Committee, is a trainer at Alera, and is speaker on health and welfare plan topics.

    Ryan is a native Houstonian and a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business where he majored in Finance and Marketing. He continues to stay active with his alma mater by serving on the Board of the Texas Exes Houston Chapter.

  • Lisa Allen, CAPPP, CHRS, CFC, CAS

    Senior Compliance Consultant, Alera Group

    Lisa has 30+ years of employee benefits experience, and 23 at Relph Benefit Advisors, an Alera Group Company.

    She manages regulatory updates and client council regarding ERISA, Section 125, the Affordable Care Act and managing employee eligibility. She was appointed to the IRS Employer Reporting Advisory Council and the IRS Advisory Council.

  • Elliot Gershenson

    Principal, Gershenson Consulting, LLC

    Elliot has been a nonprofit leader for over 43 years, recently retiring as president and CEO of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM) after 11 years of service. During that time, Gershenson helped IM triple its budget and grow its core services.

    Gershenson is known as a problem-solver and a “turn-around” specialist with special interest in philanthropy, leadership development, project management and coaching new and more seasoned executives. Gershenson’s last project at IM was to complete a $14 million capital campaign and building project, which was completed prior to his retirement.

    Gershenson was honored by IM with the title president emeritus as of July 1, 2015. Gershenson is a proud graduate of Penn State University (BA) and Lehigh University (Masters) with degrees in Psychology and Counseling. He is currently an adjunct professor at UHD, co-teaching the class Governance and Organizational Behavior with Andy Hoffman, in the school’s Master’s Degree program in Nonprofit Management.


  • Andy Hoffman

    Consultant, Gershenson Consulting, LLC

    Andy is the former Chief Operating Officer of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston where he supervised the agency’s primary programs including Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston, Refugee Resettlement, and Interfaith Relations.

    In late 2016 he retired from Interfaith Ministries and subsequently joined Gershenson Consulting, LLC, as a consultant for nonprofit organizations. His professional practice focuses on strategic planning, governance, and operations. He shares his professional expertise as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Houston-Downtown teaching a graduate class in nonprofit governance.
